In the year 1930, Seth Piramalji laid the foundation for women’s education in Rajasthan in a town called Bagar. He did this in challenging circumstances as the practice of female infanticide was prevalent in India in those days and even more so in Rajasthan.
Seth Piramalji wanted to bring about “social reforms” and wanted to do away with social evils such as dowry, Sati and female infanticide. He came up with the revolutionary idea of educating and thus empowering girls. Being an eminent industrialist and a great visionary, he recognized the need and significance of girl’s education, for the betterment and upliftment of our society, as well as of our nation at large. This noble task was difficult in a conservative and backward society. However, with determination and complete devotion, he started the school completely free of cost, and convinced parents in the town to send their daughters to our school. He did the unthinkable and started the school only for girls and Harijans (Untouchables).
This noble task laid the foundation for our institutions which were then grown manifold by Dr. Mohanlal Piramal and raised to new heights by him. He went on to start an english medium school, Arts and Science girls college and finally Post Graduate Masters college. Today, our institutions hold 1st position in the field of girls education, not only in Shekhawati but in the entire State of Rajasthan.
